Father's Day. First recognized as a holiday by President Coollidge in 1924. Created by a woman in Washington, honoring her father who had raised his 6 children as a single parent. More recently promoted by the greeting card industry, by, nonetheless, a day worth celebrating.
A father, to me, is a caring, selfless, humble, sacrificing man. These are characteristics that describe the wonderful father I am blessed to have and the incredible father that my dear husband is to our daughter.
There aren't words to really describe a father-daughter relationship. How can you really express the feeling of comfort or having stories read to you over and over every night for 12 years by someone who could make the characters come to life? How do you describe the security felt by having your dad tuck you in each night? There aren't adequate words to describe how a girl feels as she listens to her father pray at the dinner table night after night and serving year after year at church - learning and watching the ways of Godly lifestyle. When she crashes and totals the family van, nothing describes the relief and forgiveness felt by a father's hug and kind words. When he walks her down the isle on her wedding day, a father's love and kiss on his daughter's head, as he hands her off, will never be forgotten, replaced, or described in simple terms. A girl loves her daddy forever.

This is how I feel and I know that Evie is already feeling things like this for her daddy. I love watching to two of the interact and the love that Andrew has for his daughter. Again, indescribable.
Father's Day, 2010
So, although Hallmark might try to claim this day as a money-making holiday, I don't think one day is really enough to honor our fathers.
