Sorry, I do apologize for the time lapse between these blog postings...we have been very busy over this past weekend and fighting over time spent on the computer. Since Andrew is about to take his German final tomorrow (pray for him!), he wins out on priority over me in using the internet! So, there is much to talk about...
Sunday marked the beginning of week 12 and the ending of trimester number 1! I can't believe that we are already on our way into the middle of this journey. Yikes. That makes it seem like things are going fast! I was thinking back on tri 1 and was really being thankful for the relatively easy first few months that I had. Things really weren't that bad for me/us - a little strange, perhaps - but nothing too severe. I'm grateful for that and really looking forward to these next few weeks. I really feel "bigger." Those around me disagree, but I feel like my tummy is full and bloated all the time...so, I'm looking forward to it really getting bigger and having the rest of the world know that I really have a reason for feeling this way! I can't wait to feel Baby Wright move! This week, What To Expect When You're Expecting, said that if we prod around at my midsection, it will make the baby move - however, he/she is still too small for me to feel any movements...a few more weeks, though, and I should feel something! I look forward to that.
So, benchmark #12 was made out on an island, Catalina Island, to be exact. We spent a lovely weekend out there with our lovely friends, Joey and Katie. (check out the flickr page for more pics) To get to the island, you have to take about an hour long ferry ride and I was nervous about this ride - afraid I would get motion sickness. This proved to be no problem at all. The ferry moved quick enough that I couldn't even tell we were on the waves - except for the fact that we were all pretty wet when we exited the boat! However, much to my surprise, kayaking turned out to be the bigger problem. We rented 2-person kayaks on Saturday and had a great time paddling around the island and exploring some little coves. We packed a lunch and stopped on a little beach to eat...it was great. One problem though --- the waves did affect me on this venture. When our boat was moving, I was much better and not so impacted by the waters movement. However, whenever Andrew would take a break (I felt so bad - he was working so hard!), the waves really rocked our boat and in return my stomach. I like to think that the 10 or so times that I threw up over the side of the kayak just allowed the sea creatures to have a snack that day! Poor Joey and Katie, and especially Andrew who was in the back of the kayak, had to witness these events! I did really enjoy kayaking still - minus these small issues! We also enjoyed a lovely hike - although it turned out to be MUCH steeper than we were anticipating! We had our dinner at the top of the "mountain" - overlooking the ocean all around us and watching the sun set up there. It really was a fun time.
Highlights of the weekend:
~a large seal leading us back to the kayak rental place!
~eating our freeze dried meals
~getting away with friends
~exploring a new part of CA!
We've decided that this baby better enjoy these types of activities for all that it is putting me through right now!
